Do I need a building permit for my deck?

-Most new deck installations require a building permit even if there is an existing deck already in place. The Ontario Building Code states that any deck over 108 square feet (10m2) OR greater than 2ft (0.6m) above the ground requires a building permit. When hiring us, we take care of the all the permit arrangements and necessary inspections.

What is protective joist tape?

-Protective joist tape is a weather barrier installed on top of the wood framing and before the deck boards are installed. This drastically reduces the chances of the deck framing rotting out. This is especially important when using low maintenance decking. This is why MKW includes this on every new deck we install at no extra cost!

-The short answer: yes. The long answer: Most of our jobs do not require a site visit for an accurate quote. The biggest reason we have most of our prices displayed online is to help you even faster. People are busy these days; whether its working long hours, taking the kids to sports on evenings and weekends or just busy schedules. Our primary goal here is to make these projects as easy and stress free as possible for our clients and that starts as soon as you are budgeting and planning for your project.

Are you licensed and insured?

-Of course we are licensed and insured. We have a valid business license, valid WSIB, liability insurance and all of our vehicles and equipment is insured too.

Do you sub contract?

-All of our crew members are employees of MKW. This makes it easier to schedule projects, ensure quality and timeliness, and provide an outstanding service. Occasionally, we need to bring in a sub trade for something we are not qualified in, such as electrical installation for hot tubs. For these tasks, MKW only works with fully qualified, licensed and insured sub trades.

What kind of warranty do you offer?

- MKW guarantees all new installations of decks, fences and decorative water features. Our workmanship warranty on brand new decks is 5 years. The low maintenance decking we use come with a 25 to 50 year warranty. Our brand new fences and decorative water features come with a 2 year workmanship warranty. Do you offer financing?
